Health Diplomacy Institutional Network at PMAC 2026
Connected Futures: Equity, Climate, and Health – How to navigate and use diplomacy in a complex political reality
Organised by the International Health Policy Program (IHPP) Foundation in collaboration with the Health Diplomacy Institutional Network, this Prince Mahidol Award (PMAC) 2026 side meeting discussed the alignment of climate change, health, equity, and innovation across governance and multilateral systems.
Discussions highlighted the interconnected nature of climate and health risks which require integrated, cross-sectoral policy responses. The session also examined the opportunities and risks of digital health and emerging technologies. While innovation can strengthen resilience and preparedness, panellists cautioned that without equity-focused governance and international cooperation, technological advances may deepen existing divides. Additionally, demographic shifts, including ageing, migration, and displacement, were highlighted as long-term pressures requiring integrated humanitarian, development, and health responses.
Drawing lessons from multilateral and regional forums, the session reinforced a shared message: equity-centred health diplomacy is essential for navigating today’s complex political reality and advancing resilient, inclusive health systems for both people and the planet.
Overall, participants actively engaged in the session, reflecting a growing appetite for understanding and applying health diplomacy tools to address interconnected polycrises.
